Several ferries per day depart for Green Island from Fugang Harbor just north of Taitung City. This attraction is definitely off-the-beaten-track for international travelers. They offer free pick-up from Luye train station, but communication could be difficult. The grounds include a café, restaurant, organic 台東 伴手 farms, cultural displays, and gorgeous scenery, but the highlight is the dance performances. These take place twice a day, and only if there are enough people, so it’s better to come on the weekend and call first to confirm . Luye (鹿野) is one of my favorite places to spend the night along Highway 9.
Day 2 offers even more opportunities to learn about Taitung’s tea culture, including attending a tea workshop, visiting a tea market, and exploring a local village. Get ready to immerse yourself in the rich 台東美食伴手禮 tea culture of Taitung on this 2-day itinerary. With its prime location, Hoya Taitung Hotel offers guests access to local attractions. Guests can enjoy mountain or city views from their room windows.

The market prices in Taitung vary depending on the item you're purchasing and the time of year. During peak tourist seasons, prices may be slightly higher as vendors try to capitalize on the increased foot traffic. However, for those willing to bargain and negotiate with vendors, there are always deals to be had.
Tianhou Temple of Guanshan Township, Taitung, was built in 1895 in another location of Guanshan and its main deity is Mazu or Heavenly Holy Mother, or Goddess of the Seas,.. The Temple was relocated to current location in 1930, although it was taken over by Japanese Occupation Force in Taiwan and renamed as Guanshan Temple and the main deity was Triratna Buddha. In 1964 local Taiwanese worshippers donated funds to rebuild the temple in 1964 and completed the construction and since then became the major local temple and local activity center. The Temple has its older temple bells publicly displayed in the right-side of the court yard and one of them seems to be more than 100 years. The Temple has free parking for the worshippers and visitors, and its bathrooms are open to the public. Because the Temple is located at Guanshan Central Food Market, the nearby area has variety of food vendors and food price seems to be reasonable.
With that said, I’ve included a whole host of things to do in Taitung and its surrounding areas! That way, you can pick and choose and ultimately plan your own perfect Taitung itinerary. Your first go-to stop for otaku souvenirs should be the Underground Mall below Taipei Main Station, specifically the underground shopping street near exit Y17. There are multiple shops there selling Japanese and Chinese toy models, figurines, posters, video games, and so on. Taiwanese love buying imported Japanese products, especially when they are cheap.

The owner, an American who settled in Taitung after coming to surf, has created a renowned pizza destination. Visitors often claim that the quality of the pizza rivals or even surpasses that of larger cities like Taipei or Kaohsiung. After a few nights of quick noodle soups and night market fare we wanted to properly sit down for dinner. The restaurant is in a hip pedestrian / park area with a craft market and there was even a music festival nearby. We found this place on Google maps and heard their burgers and pizza were great.
It is less showy, with no Queen’s Head rock or anything like it. Still, this rocky stretch of coastline is pretty, with lots of little tidal pools to explore. Here are the attractions you will pass in order after driving north from Taitung city. For all the info you need to plan your visit, read my Lisong Hot Spring guide.
Visitors can find bitter leaf products such as herbal teas, supplements, and skincare products in Taitung, making it a unique and thoughtful souvenir to take back home. Overall, these special local herbs and spices from Taitung not only make for interesting souvenirs but also offer a glimpse into the region’s rich cultural and natural heritage. Note that these attractions are rather spread out, and it’s not always easy to find a taxi in Taitung city, nor is the public transportation very convenient. Therefore, I recommend renting a scooter or bicycle in front of the train station to get around. You can also explore the city on this guided Taitung city attractions tour or this electric bicycle guided tour. Furthermore, the natural resources of Taitung Township play a crucial role in the souvenir industry.

The display area on the second floor shows the course of development of Chishang riceballs using real-scene simulation, giving visitors an understanding of life and culture in the past. Special products of Chishang, traditional snacks, and children’s toys are sold on the first floor, and visitors can also sit down and enjoy a steaming-hot Chishang lunchbox. Tourism in Taitung City surrounds the area’s natural offerings as well as exploration into its aboriginal heritage. One of its main attractions is the Museum of Prehistory, the go-to place to explore the long history of the indigenous peoples of Taiwan. Taitung is also a great starting point for cyclists, as the East coast’s number of mountains seems to outnumber sparsely-populated humans. It's a small mountain right behind the old Taito train station (it takes a few minutes to reach the top, so you'll need some physical strength).
For the new comer to Taitung, you can also rent motorcycle in Taitung train station at very affordable price of 400 for 24 hours. You can check my youtube videos regarding Pipa Lake. For day 3, we recommend exploring the south side side of town.
