Don't miss what is one of the most beautiful city gates in Italy - the Porta San Tomaso, on the north side of the historic center. The Renaissance-styled gate is on a bridge over a canal, a temple-like structure that welcomes you to town. The center relief sculpture bears the lion of St. Mark, and the gateway is dedicated to St. Thomas Becket of Canterbury.
Surrounded on one side by lush greenery, and on the other by the distant hum of city life, Treviso’s walls come alive as the sun begins to set. Now topped by well-manicured gravel pathways and spatterings of shady trees, these walls date back to medieval times, reaching around the heart of the city. The office stocks a small selection of information leaflets about the province, town maps and a leaflet of walks around Treviso’s waterways. We’d recommend picking up one or two of these; the maps are useful and the itineraries explore interesting sights like the fishmarket on a little island and some of the town’s working waterwheels. After the fall of the last Caminesi lord, Rizzardo IV, the Marca was the site of continuous struggles and ravages (1329–1388).
The art section contains both historical works and contemporary art spanning Impressionism to Avant-garde. Within the confines of the museum you can find a fantastic collection of art and archaeology. The interior of the church is plain but striking and features a some beautiful coloured  mosaics and a multitude of religious decoration. Constructed in the 13th century, the church features a Romanesque design and has a large bell tower at the rear of the building.

And in the summer, you might run into an outdoor event hosted by the town along your walk on the walls. After coming under Venetian rule in the 14th century, massive defensive walls and ramparts were built around the city to protect it from attacks.
